Mr. Venayagampillai Shanmuganayagam, aged 85, passed away peacefully in Markham, Ontario, on January 15, 2026. He was born on May 30, 1940, in Point Pedro, Sri Lanka.He is survived by his beloved wife, Kalamathy; his sons, Dhanansayan, Kalaichelvan, and Dhaksayan; his daughters-in-law, Laura, Suhaliya, and Merujah;and his cherished grandchildren, Isabella Sohana, Julien Vyasa, Haren, and Milani.
An old boy of Hartley College in Sri Lanka, Mr. Shanmuganayagam, carried a lifelong commitment to education and excellence. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Ceylon in 1962 and completed his postgraduate research at the University of Cambridge in England. He consistently ranked at the top of his class, achievements he rarely spoke of and ones many learned of only through others.
