PROF. M.T.A. FURKHAN

Prof. M.R.T. Furkhan – (March 18 1935 – May 9, 2022) was a business leader and a  pioneer of tourism.He was appointed the 1st President of CIMA.  He was also the Founder and Chairman of the Confifi Group of Hotel Companies and its subsidiaries. His previous appointments include: General Manager of Walker Sons & Co. Ltd., Professor of Management Accounting, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and in 1976, he moved to Australia as the Group Finance Director of U.K. MNC; and simultaneously the Managing Director of its largest subsidiary in Sydney.Mr. Furkhan won many citations and awards and was recognised as a CIMA Business Leader of the Year. He was also President of the Rotary Club of Colombo North, Chairman of the Tourist Hotels Association, President of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Chairman, of the Board of Governors of Zahira College. For his exemplary public service, Mr.Furkhan was awarded the National Honour Titles of Deshabandu (1987) and Deshamanya ( 2005).
